NAMA to Launch Jeel “Business Ideation Workshop” Next Week

The first stage of Nama Women Advancement Establishment’s Jeel Entrepreneurship programme - Jeel 2017 - will take-off next week, with three “Business Ideation Workshops” in Al Dhaid, Khorfakkan and Dibba Al Hisn - Sharjah.

The ideation workshop will allow the participants to discuss their business idea, and will help those with ideas to refine them and support others to develop new ones.

Building on its first year of success in Dibba Al Hisn, Jeel 2017, which has expanded to cover five Sharjah communities, will continue their mission to equip Emirati women with the required skills to become entrepreneurs.

“Jeel aims to build the capacity of women entrepreneurs across Sharjah to convert their business ideas into operating enterprises. The ideation camp, which will reach out to key communities in Sharjah, is a fantastic opportunity for start-ups andindividual entrepreneurs to take the first steps towards exploring the idea of self- employment, and hopefully transform their dream into a reality,” said Reem BinKaram, Director of NAMA Women Advancement Establishment.

“Essential tools of effective and successful entrepreneurship will be offered to all participating women. They will receive scenarios that require creative and innovative thought processes, using new models of business. This will help them present aplanned and structured business plan,” BinKaram said. Through the workshop, participants will also take part in exercises that will improve their creative thinking skills to help them come up with innovative and out-of-the-box business ideas.

The Business Ideation Workshops will be held in Al Dhaid from May 14-16, Khorfakkan on May 17-18 and May 21, and in Dibba Al Hisn from May 22-24.

Participants will have an in-depth understanding of their local market, the challenges they might face when they endeavour to become business owners and how to overcome those.

The ideation workshops are a stepping stone into the Jeel programme, which is one of NAMA’s strongest strategic moves to build more opportunities for Emirati women.

Jeel 2017 was announced through a series of open houses last month in locations such as Al Dhaid, Mleiha, Khorfakkan, Kalba and Dibba Al Hisn - the five new communities it’s targeting this year. The open houses introduced the fully-sponsoredprogramme to women in these communities, and invited them to its first phase, the three-day Business Ideation Workshop.

While the programme targets women in the five listed communities, the activities of the programme will be carried out in three main cities: Al Dhaid, Khorfakkan and Dibba Al Hisn.

Launched in December 2015 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairperson of NAMA, the Jeel programme is one of NAMA’s strong and importantcommitments to build further opportunities for Emirati women by building their capacity in selected areas of Sharjah and to convert their ideas to viable businesses.

Both the Jeel 2016 and Jeel 2017 programmes are conducted in collaboration with Education For Employment – Global (EFE-Global), a regional organisation that works to create job opportunities for unemployed youth in the Middle East and NorthAfrica by providing world-class professional and technical training.

Participants in the Jeel 2016 programme have undergone three phases of training and mentorship in business skills; including participation in workshops that tested their business acumen and strategy seminars that taught them how to createworkable business plans.
